Overview
Important aspects of academic writing:
- Sentence skills with emphasis on grammar, syntax, structure, and organisation in order to improve the necessary writing skills;
- Different genres of writing at the tertiary level such as summary, argumentative essays, research report, and directed writing;
- Reading skills with the main objective to improve students’ analytical and critical thinking skills;
- Reviewing articles to verify their authenticity and credibility in order to write an extended essay (e.g. research report, position paper) which analyses and synthesises multiple sources into a coherent and well- structured writing assignment;
- Proper referencing when using primary, secondary, and tertiary sources for writing.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- Evaluate opinions and arguments presented in the text.
- Discuss ICT related issues through logical development.
- Produce unified, orderly and coherent sentences and essays with supporting evidence.
- Use correct citation and referencing method in paraphrasing and summarising the work of others.
