The Anatomy of Online Communities: Panel Talk and Book Launch

Ever wondered why some online communities feel like home, while others feel like a group chat you muted six months ago?

From K-pop fandoms and pop-culture rabbit holes to Malaysian foodie groups neighbourhood chats and the occasional viral WhatsApp “news”, online communities are where culture, connection and chaos meet.

Prof. Bradley C. Freeman and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zuhaili Akmal Ismail invite you to the launch of their new book, The Anatomy of Online Communities. Together with Mediha Mahmood, CEO of the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum, they will unpack who holds power online, who makes the rules, why misinformation travels faster than the correction and what comes next for the digital communities we cannot seem to log out of.

3 August 2026 | 12 noon–2 p.m | The Sunway Library by BookXcess, Level 2, Sunway Square Mall

Come curious and leave wondering whether you joined your online communities or they quietly recruited you.
