Asylum Is Unavailable: Absence and Absurdity at the Digital Border
How are digital systems transforming access to asylum and refugee protection? And can technologies designed to improve efficiency inadvertently create new barriers to justice and inclusion?
Join us for an insightful book talk as part of Sunway University’s Campus with a Conscience (CWAC) Speaker Series, featuring Dr Stephen Damianos, Executive Director of the Neurorights Foundation, Lecturer in Ethics and Public Policy at Cornell University, and Harvard Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights Fellow at Harvard University.
Book Talk: Asylum Is Unavailable: Absence and Absurdity at the Digital Border
Drawing on extensive field research in Greece, Dr Damianos explores how digital systems can restrict asylum seekers’ access to legal protection and fundamental rights. The session will examine the complex relationship between technology, migration and human rights, while considering the implications of digitalisation for refugee protection in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Moderator: Associate Professor Dr Priya Sharma, Head of the Centre for Commercial Law and Justice, Sunway Business School.
