CONSUMER PROTECTION IN THE COMMON LAW COUNTRIES OF ASIA

The Centre for Commercial Law and Justice is pleased to host a specialist lecture evaluating the comparative approaches to consumer protection in the common law countries of South-East Asia (particularly Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Brunei). These approaches will be contrasted with some of the leading standards as set out in the EU and today, applied in the United Kingdom. The lecture will also explore challenges in adapting to the digital age and those that relate to promoting efficient enforcement structures.

Professor Geraint Howells is one of the world's leading authorities on consumer policy and law. He is the Dean & Chair (Professor of Commercial Law) at City University, Hong Kong.

Professor Howells' experience working in universities includes being the Head of the Law School at University of Manchester and at Lancaster University, as well as holding Chairs at the University of Manchester, Lancaster University and University of Sheffield. He was also formerly the President of the International Association of Consumer Law.
