We are honoured to invite you to the next lecture in the Jeffrey Cheah Distinguished Speakers Series (JCDSS), featuring Professor Serena Nik-Zainal, Professor of Genomic Medicine and Bioinformatics at the University of Cambridge and one of the world’s leading pioneers in cancer genomics.

An internationally acclaimed and award-winning Malaysian scientist, Professor Serena Nik-Zainal has transformed how we understand cancer through her groundbreaking work on mutational signatures, distinctive DNA patterns that reveal the biological processes driving tumour development. Her pioneering discoveries have reshaped cancer research globally and opened new pathways for precision diagnosis and targeted treatment. She was the first woman to receive the prestigious Dr Josef Steiner Cancer Research Prize, often regarded as one of the highest honours in cancer research, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

In this thought-provoking lecture, Professor Serena Nik-Zainal will explore how decoding these genomic clues is transforming cancer research and medicine. Drawing on cutting-edge advances in genomics, bioinformatics, and precision oncology, she will demonstrate how reading the DNA of cancer is helping scientists identify tumour origins, predict vulnerabilities, personalise therapies, and move us closer to earlier detection and more effective treatment.
