This course explores the evolution and modern roles of zoos in conservation, education, research, recreation, and animal welfare, while highlighting their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students will examine topics including zoo biosecurity, animal welfare and behaviour, enrichment strategies, animal husbandry, preventive health care, ethical animal management, sustainability practices, conservation initiatives, and public communication. Through experiential learning and reflective activities, students will critically evaluate contemporary wildlife park operations and propose future-focused solutions for sustainable and ethical wildlife management.

On completing the course, students will be able to:

1. Perform zoo and wildlife-centre procedures that address biosecurity, animal behaviour, welfare, enrichment, and preventive care in accordance with accepted professional and ethical standards (P5, PLO3)
