CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: CITIES FLAGSHIP PROGRAMME

We are pleased to announce an opportunity to lead or partner in a major research initiative from the Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI). FCRI is an interdisciplinary, joint research institute between Sunway University (Malaysia) and Lancaster University (UK), focusing on cities of the future and addressing key challenges associated with global urbanisation, sustainability, and heritage preservation.

FCRI CITIES FLAGSHIP PROGRAMME (CFP)
This innovative three-year programme is designed to support strategic, long-term research activities that will strengthen cities-related research expertise, enhance our internal and external profiles, and drive impactful engagement.
In Round 1 of this scheme, FCRI will fund two Flagship Programmes to commence in September 2023. Ideally, one programme will be led by a Sunway University (SU) Principal Investigator (PI) and the other by a Lancaster University (LU) PI.

*Note: Budget will be released annually following the submission of a short progress report.
PROGRAMME AIMS
1. To identify an area of research that makes a key contribution (in knowledge and impact) to studies on cities and urban regions, tackling global urbanisation, sustainability, or heritage preservation. All disciplines are welcome provided there is a clear link to cities-related research.
2. To develop a programme of pilot research activities that have the potential to lead to ambitious and impactful further research.
3. To develop significant academic expertise in the chosen area, growing a recognised internal and external research reputation.
4. To attract external research funding to grow the programme with new investment that equals or exceeds the initial FCRI investment.
5. To attract and engage other researchers from both universities and beyond, expanding the Flagship network.
ELIGIBLE ACTIVITIES
Activities may include, but are not limited to: pilot research activities (which must make up at least 65% of the programme), workshops, conferences, capacity building, stakeholder engagement, external network building, and related student activities (e.g., internships).
