Health Week 2024
Health Week 2024, organised by the Health Department of Sunway Student Volunteers, brought together a vibrant mix of health awareness initiatives, free health services, and community engagement. This annual event, that took place from 24 to September 24th to 26th, aimed to educate, empower, and support the community in embracing a healthier lifestyle.
This year’s event saw the participation of 19 NGOs, including LINets, Kiwanis, and Hospis Malaysia. Each organisation set up booths to share invaluable health information and engage attendees with resources and services. A wide array of free health screenings was offered, such as the Inbody Test, Lasik Eye Tests, Traditional Chinese Medicine Consultations, and Chiropractic Check-ups, encouraging preventative care and health education.
One of the highlights of Health Week was a successful blood donation drive, conducted in collaboration with Pusat Darah Negara. Over three days, the drive collected 59 packs of blood to support local healthcare facilities. Additionally, the National Cancer Society Malaysia provided free HPV vaccinations to students and staff on the second and third days, administering 230 doses to promote cervical cancer prevention.
St. John Ambulance Malaysia conducted free CPR and AED courses, equipping participants with essential life-saving skills. To encourage active participation, a stamping system was introduced. Attendees who visited multiple booths earned access to soft clay art and craft sessions and were entered into a giveaway. Winners were announced on Instagram, adding an interactive and fun element to the event.
Generous sponsorships from Sunway XFarm and Aetrex enhanced the event. Aetrex contributed exclusive giveaway gifts, including three high-value shoe insoles, enriching the experience for participants and emphasizing the importance of foot health.
Health Week 2024 successfully brought together NGOs, sponsors, and the community to create a dynamic and educational event. By combining health screenings, awareness campaigns, and engaging activities, the initiative underscored the importance of proactive healthcare and community collaboration. The event’s success sets a promising precedent for future Health Week programs, continuing to inspire wellness and health awareness among participants.
