Advocating for Fathers' Mental Health
This Father’s Day, we’re proud to see our very own Dr. Wu Shin Ling from the School of Psychology, FMLS, featured in The Star for raising a crucial but often overlooked issue, the mental health and emotional wellbeing of fathers.
In her op-ed, Dr Wu sheds light on the psychological stress fathers face, the cultural stigma that discourages emotional expression, and the urgent need for reform in how we acknowledge, support, and protect paternal mental health.
Key takeaways:
Raise awareness: Normalize conversations around men’s emotional struggles
Reform workplace policies: Recognize caregiving roles through leave and mental health support
Provide tailored support: Ensure accessible, gender-sensitive counselling services
Let’s use this moment to rethink societal expectations and ensure fatherhood is supported in all its complexity.
