Flying the Jalur Gemilang High: Sunway Actuarial Science Student Shines at the 21st Asian Senior Karate Championship
The School of Mathematical Sciences is bursting with pride as we celebrate the phenomenal achievement of our very own Shahmalarani Chandran, a Master of Science in Actuarial Science student, who has made history at the 21st Asian Senior Karate Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
A lifelong karate enthusiast and a dedicated scholar, Shahmalarani demonstrated extraordinary skill, resilience, and determination as she triumphed over formidable opponents from China (8–1), Japan (4–1), and Kazakhstan (9–1).
Her outstanding performance earned her a silver medal and a place in the finals, following a triumphant victory in the prestigious 'World No.1 Title Kazakhstan' semi-final — an accolade that not only celebrates her personal excellence but also marks a historic milestone for Malaysia, being the first time in 13 years that the nation has qualified for the finals.
Currently competing in the Karate 1-Premier League in Morocco, Shahmalarani continues to push boundaries, fueled by her recent success and aiming even higher as she sets her sights on the 2025 Southeast Asia Games.
