Sunway Performing Arts Students to Shine at Silk Road Festival in Shanghai
Congratulations to Dr Elizabeth de Roza and our Diploma in Performing Arts students from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sunway University!
We are delighted to share that they have been selected to perform at the 2025 Silk Road Traditional Performing Arts Festival, taking place from 28 October to 3 November 2025, organised by the Shanghai Theatre Academy.
This prestigious international festival, themed “Traditional Performing Arts: New Expression in the New Era,” celebrates the connection between history and the present while fostering global collaboration and cultural exchange. It features an exciting lineup of performances from Mongolia, Brazil, Spain, and other countries, along with workshops and an academic symposium exploring how traditional performing arts continue to inspire and evolve worldwide.
Our students will proudly represent Sunway University by performing the Greek story of Medea in Randai form — a theatre tradition from the Minangkabau in West Sumatra, also practiced in Negeri Sembilan — which combines drama, dance, song, and martial arts (silat) into a powerful storytelling performance.
Wishing the entire team all the best as they take Sunway University to the stage in Shanghai, showcasing creativity, collaboration, and the enduring spirit of traditional performing arts!
