From Sunway to Seoul: Psychology Student Wins Big at International Cheerleading Event

We are proud to share that Joey Ng, a third-year student from the BSc (Hons) Psychology programme, has brought home double gold at the Korea Open Cheerleading Championship 2025, held from 5th to the 7th of June 2025 at Incheon Namdong Gymnasium, Seoul.

Joey competed in the Partner Stunt Elite Level 6 division under the team name Aerial Malaysia, alongside her stunt partner Tai Chong Wen Ze, a Sunway alumnus. Together, they secured 1st place, outperforming competitors from Kazakhstan.

In addition to her own performance, Joey also led a young team from SJK(C) Lick Hung, Subang, to victory in the Cheerleading Level 1 division. The team, known as Baby Bears (ages 10–12), trained under Joey’s guidance since March and proudly clinched 1st place in their category.

Joey is also a member of Team Malaysia Cheerleading, having earned her spot through a national audition. She represented Malaysia in the ICU World Cup 2025 (Korea) last November, achieving 2nd place. She has once again qualified for this year’s national team and is currently in training for upcoming international competitions.
