Academic Dialogue on the Legal Status and Protection of the Rohingya in Malaysia
Sunway University’s Centre for Commercial Law & Justice (CCLJ) continues to support academic engagement on contemporary legal and societal issues through its academics’ participation in scholarly discussions and knowledge exchange.
On 27 July 2026, Dr Tamara Joan Duraisingam participated in the Expert@FUU Podcast Series organised by the Faculty of Law, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The session featured Dr Tamara alongside Assoc. Prof. Dr Rohaida Nordin, co-authors of The Stateless Rohingya in Malaysia: Legal Status and Protection, and was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr Shahrul Mizan Ismail.
The discussion explored the legal status and protection of the Rohingya community in Malaysia, with particular attention to the challenges and vulnerabilities arising from statelessness and refugee status. The session also highlighted the importance of academic dialogue and public awareness in fostering a deeper understanding of the legal and social dimensions of refugee protection.
Dr Tamara’s participation reflects CCLJ’s commitment to contributing to scholarly conversations on contemporary legal issues and to strengthening academic engagement and knowledge exchange with institutions within Malaysia and beyond.
