Beyond ROI: Redefining Value in Manufacturing

The plastics and electrical and electronics (E&E) sectors play a vital role in an increasingly digitalised world. Their applications span across key sectors, covering mobile devices, data centres, and even green technologies such as electric vehicles, wind turbines and solar panels.

Therefore, it is crucial that these sectors not only contribute positively to the economy, but also to the planet and society.

On 13th January, IGSC - Sunway Institute for Global Strategy and Competitiveness sat down with over 25 industry leaders from the plastics and E&E sectors in Penang for Module 2 of our ROI to ROV programme. We worked with representatives from Robert Bosch Power Tools (Bosch Malaysia), Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science & Technology (CREST) Center, Mplex Technology Sdn Bhd, NI (National Instruments) Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Synvue Sdn. Bhd., Binsen Plastic Industry Sdn. Bhd., Danapac Industries (M) Sdn. Bhd. and Promooi Plastic Industries Sdn Bhd to guide them in their transition towards sustainable, values-driven manufacturing — beyond just Return-on-Investment and towards Return-on-Values.

Beyond ROI: Redefining Value in Manufacturing

We were particularly inspired by two participants whose company aspirations were underpinned by the ROV perspective:

  • Mr Teh Zhi Qi shared Danapac's roadmap for a "low-waste future” whereby their strategy integrates operational excellence with circular design and precision material optimisation. The ROV perspective ensures that the company achieves financial stability by protecting human life and building trust through ethical governance.
  • Mr Ganageesvary Rajagopal emphasised that growth must be driven by sustainable solutions. NI Malaysia aims to contribute to a healthier and safer community by looking beyond efficiency and quality built on a foundation of trust extending beyond the factory floor.

We look forward to continuing this journey with our participants in Module 3 & 4 this year.
