ICMA 2026 Advances Dialogue on Micro-Credentials and Advanced Modular
The International Conference on Micro-Credentials and Advanced Modular (ICMA 2026) successfully convened higher education leaders, policymakers, academics, industry representatives, and students to explore the future of higher education, modular learning, and micro-credentials. The conference attracted 314 participants, with representatives from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Indonesia, and the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), demonstrating strong local and international interest in flexible and future-ready learning pathways.
The event opened with welcome addresses by Prof. Teo Ee Sing, Chief Executive of Sunway College, and Prof. Dato’ Dr Elizabeth Lee, reaffirming Sunway Education Group’s commitment to educational innovation.
The conference was honoured by the presence of YBhg. Datuk Ts. Dr Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, Deputy Secretary-General (Management & Development), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), who delivered the keynote address on the role of modular learning, micro-credentials, and flexible education pathways in strengthening Malaysia’s higher education ecosystem.
A key highlight was the Up Close & Personal session featuring Dato’ Prof. Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), moderated by Prof. Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam. His engaging presentation effectively showcased the immersive capabilities of the University’s 360 Hall.
Despite his demanding schedule, Prof. Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University, personally welcomed and hosted the VVIP guests.
The programme featured a range of engaging discussions, including a Dialogue Session with Prof. John Weldon, Associate Dean, Learning & Teaching, Victoria University, and Prof. Teo Ee Sing; a Vice-Chancellors’ Forum with leaders from Sunway University, Monash University Malaysia, UNITEN, and UCSI University; and a Coffee Chat on Micro-Credentials with experts from UiTM, HELP University, Pixlr Group, and Sunway University.

Special shoutout goes to Prof. Teo Ee Sing, Prof. Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam, Mr Danial Abdul Rahman, Prof. Cheng Mien Wee, and Ms Shangeetha Raj Mohan, whose contributions as speakers and moderators highlighted Sunway Education Group’s thought leadership and enriched the conference discussions.
The conference was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr Yazilmiwati, with Ms Ng Beng Lean serving as Conference Advisor. Heartfelt appreciation is also extended to the Organising Committee for their dedication, coordination, and commitment in ensuring the successful planning and execution of the conference.
