Sunway Student Volunteers Support GCS Soup Kitchen
On 18 January 2026, ten volunteers from Sunway Student Volunteers took part in a community service programme at Grace Community Services, Klang. The event was organised in collaboration with Grace Community Services KL and aimed to support B40 communities through food preparation and distribution. The activity took place from 8:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The volunteers gathered at the Sunway College foyer and departed at 8:20 a.m., arriving at the venue at approximately 8:45 a.m. Upon arrival, the organiser briefed the volunteers on their respective job scopes and introduced the various initiatives carried out by Grace Community Services to assist underprivileged communities. This briefing provided the volunteers with a clearer understanding of the organisation's mission and the importance of their contribution.
Food preparation began at 9:15 a.m., with volunteers assigned to tasks such as boiling eggs, peeling potatoes, and reheating chicken. The team worked efficiently throughout the morning before taking a short 30-minute break, after which they proceeded to pack the prepared food into containers. The person in charge commended the volunteers for their efficiency, noting that they were among the most productive Sunway Student Volunteers teams involved in food kitchen activities.
At 2:00 p.m., the volunteers travelled to the food distribution point, where they distributed rice, bread, drinks, and snacks to the beneficiaries. The session allowed the volunteers to directly engage with the community and witness the impact of their efforts. As a token of appreciation, goodie bags and certificates were presented to the volunteers at the end of the distribution.
Following the completion of the activity, the volunteers departed for campus at 3:00 p.m. and arrived back at Sunway College at approximately 3:30 p.m. Overall, the GCS Food Kitchen programmed provided meaningful exposure to large-scale food preparation while reinforcing the importance of teamwork, efficiency, and community service.
