Sunway University’s TheME Programme Explores Malaysia’s Social and Legal Landscape
Sunway University’s annual Malaysian Experience programme (TheME) provided international participants with an opportunity to explore Malaysia’s social, legal and cultural landscape through a guest lecture on 26 June 2026.
As part of the programme, Vijayganesh Pullikutthyayanar from the Centre for Commercial Law and Justice delivered a session titled “Social and Legal Landscape of Malaysia,” introducing participants to Malaysia’s historical development, legal system and multicultural identity. The session also examined contemporary issues relating to governance, corruption, race-based policies and equality.
The session brought together an international group of participants, including a significant cohort of law students from Lancaster University. Their engagement and questions contributed to discussions on Malaysia’s constitutional framework, social diversity, and the broader social and legal dimensions of law and governance in the country.
Organised by the Sunway Cultural Exchange team under Student LIFE, the session reflects Sunway University’s commitment to internationalisation, cross-cultural engagement and experiential learning. Through programmes such as TheME, the University provides opportunities for participants to deepen their understanding of Malaysia while engaging with its diverse social, cultural and legal contexts.
