Di Sebalik Tabir, is a research-creation project that documents the Wayang Kulit Kelantan performance in immersive VR360. Rarely do viewers get a glimpse of the Tok Dalang's masterful storytelling as it unfolds behind the scenes, in perfect sync with the musical ensemble.

This is a research-creation project initiated in 2019 in collaboration with the late Professor Ghulam.

In Tumpat, Kelantan, Delas Santano captured the wayang kulit performance using VR360, while Matthew Sansom recorded the spatial audio. The performance was put on by the Tok Dalang Pak Rahim, who suffered a stroke in 2022.

Delas Santano is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Arts, with over a decade of experience in documenting and experimenting with cultural and heritage data. Since 2011, he has combined his strong background in creative arts and digital media to explore innovative ways of sculpting data from various fields. His work spans a wide range of subject matter, including cultural heritage, environmental sustainability, and planetary health. Through his research, Santano seeks to bridge the gap between digital technology and the preservation of cultural narratives, using data-driven approaches to address contemporary global challenges.

Delas Santano has a diverse professional background, having worked as a Multimedia Designer, Lecturer in the Multimedia Advertising Design Programme at the Faculty of Creative Multimedia at MMU, and Audiovisual Producer at 3CDI, University of Malaya. With extensive expertise in graphic design, video content production and post-production, experiential design all which he explored in curating his practise based research. Additionally, Delas has considerable experience in teaching, research, and administrative roles, alongside the responsibility of maintaining and updating course curricula. He has also taught part-time in Creative Multimedia at various private colleges across Malaysia.
