Advancing Sustainable Transportation on Campus

As part of its commitment to achieving carbon reduction targets and supporting a low-carbon future, Sunway University actively promotes the adoption of zero-emission transportation solutions across its campus. By integrating electric vehicles (EVs), encouraging sustainable commuting practices, and providing supporting infrastructure, the University is reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with transportation while fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

Carbon Emission Reduction Through Zero-Emission Mobility

Sunway University is committed to reducing carbon emissions from transportation by supporting the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and sustainable mobility solutions across campus. To facilitate the transition towards cleaner transportation, the University provides electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on campus, enabling students, staff, and visitors to conveniently charge their vehicles while supporting low-carbon travel.

The growing availability of affordable electric vehicles in Malaysia has contributed to an increasing number of students choosing EVs as their preferred mode of transportation to campus. As a result, more electric vehicles can be observed across campus, reflecting a positive shift towards sustainable mobility and reduced reliance on fossil-fuel-powered vehicles. To further enhance the environmental benefits of electric transportation, solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are used to generate renewable electricity that supports the operation of EV charging stations, reducing the carbon footprint associated with vehicle charging.

In addition to zero-emission vehicles, Sunway University encourages students, staff, and visitors to adopt more sustainable modes of transportation through:

  • Walking-friendly and pedestrianised campus spaces
  • Cycling facilities and bicycle parking
  • Public transportation accessibility, including BRT and rail connectivity
  • Carpooling and ride-sharing practices
  • Electric vehicle charging infrastructure

Supporting Climate Action

The adoption of zero-emission transportation contributes directly to the reduction of carbon emissions generated by daily commuting and campus operations. These efforts support Sunway University's commitment to sustainable campus development and align with:

  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 13: Climate Action

By continuously expanding sustainable transportation options and supporting the transition to clean mobility, Sunway University is creating a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient campus for future generations.
