Transportation Policy
Transportation Blueprint
Sunway University is located within the interconnected Sunway City, seamlessly linking the public road network, public transport, and the nation’s first elevated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)-Sunway Line. Eco-friendly electric buses serve 7 stations, linking the KTM Komuter rail service and Light Rail Transit (LRT). Commuters can travel to Kuala Lumpur city centre and Kuala Lumpur International Airport with ease.
The University campus is also interconnected to all the amenities nearby i.e., the mall, the medical centre, hotels, student residences and recreational parks via an elevated pedestrian walkway (also known as the canopy walk). These elevated walkways not only provide a safe solution to mobility in and around campus, but it is also aimed at reducing the number of private passenger vehicles from entering the campus thereby reducing the total number of cars within the vicinity. These walkways are a part of an extensive pedestrian pathways network within Sunway City, providing a carbon-free solution to mobility within the township.
Transportation policy and programmes
In pursuit of sustainable development, the University has implemented various programmes to aid in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. For example, vehicle parking on campus is chargeable and limited in number in order to encourage the use of public transport options. Mobile applications have been developed to allow real-time update of shuttle bus locations, allowing better time planning for using the service.
The University also developed a car-pooling system - a service matching drivers and passengers travelling to campus from the same area; as well as those travelling from the campus towards a same location. The University bus service, which operates every weekday also brings students to and from campus at minimal cost and time schedules fitting University class schedules.
In addition to university initiatives, The Sunway township has also implemented the Sustainable Intelligent Transport Ecosystem (SITE) within Sunway city. The township’s mixed developments are transit-oriented, walkable developments which promote car-light urban mobility and encourage the use of public transportation. Dedicated free shuttle bus service are available for residents, students, and visitors for stress-free and sustainable commute within the township. All this and more promote a healthy and vibrant community.
More than RM300 million has been invested in improving Sunway City’s connectivity, accessibility, landscape, and green efforts. This initiative supports Sunway’s growth not only as a tourist destination but extends Sunway’s intentions of becoming a world class sustainable city in its own right.
