Master in Clinical Psychology

Overview

The Master in Clinical Psychology programme at Sunway University prepares graduates to practice as competent, ethical Clinical Psychologists equipped to assess, diagnose, and treat psychological, emotional, and behavioural disorders across the lifespan. The programme combines rigorous coursework, supervised clinical training, and an original research project, structured to meet the registration requirements of the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC) and the Malaysian Quality Assurance (MQA). The programme follows the scientist-practitioner training model.

Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  1. Conduct clinical interviews, psychological assessments, and differential diagnosis across children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. 

  2. Deliver evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT and at least one additional modality). 

  3. Practise ethically and professionally, in accordance with the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Act 2016 and American Psychological Association standards. 

  4. Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare and community mental health teams. 

  5. Apply digital tools and data analysis competently in both clinical documentation and research. 

  6. Conduct independent, supervised research addressing clinically relevant research questions. 

  7. Engage in reflective, lifelong professional development.

Entry Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent.

Application and Shortlisting Processes 

The September 2026 intake is open to Malaysian applicants only. Applicants who meet the entry requirements may click on the Expression of Interest form below to be considered formally for admission. Applicants will be required to fill in their details and upload the listed documents into an open-access Google drive / One Drive folder. Expression of Interest form and personal statement should use provided templates. Referee reports should similarly use the provided template, and referees will be required to email reports directly to the admission team before the application deadline. Applicants will also be required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of RM300 prior to submission of the Expression of Interest.

Any application with incomplete or missing documents will be rejected. 
Application deadline for September 2026 intake is 23 August 2026, 11.59 pm.

Expression of Interest

Upon submission of an Expression of Interest and required documents, the admissions team will review applications and shortlist applicants for the next stage, consisting of sitting for a physical entrance exam, attending a structured competency-based selection interview, and completing a screening assessment. The shortlisting process will select a small number of top applicants for this stage based on prior academic records, experience in the mental health field, expression of interest and motivation, and suitable qualities as identified by referees. Shortlisted candidates will be notified of the date for the in-person entrance exam, interview, and screening at Sunway University. Upon the completion of this stage, the admission team will review the results of the exam, interview, and screening to determine the candidates who will be offered a place in the Master in Clinical Psychology programme.

    Note: The reports should be emailed by the referee directly to Dr Michele Anne (@email), stating the name of the applicant and the name of the programme applied to in the email title. The reports should not be emailed directly by applicants to the admissions team.
