Tainan National University of the Arts Summer Camp
Students Chong Zi Kang, Yap Khau Zhen, and Thong Jing Wen from the BA (Hons) Contemporary Music (Audio Technology) programme were awarded grants to participate in the “World Music” summer school at TNNUA (Tainan National University of the Arts) in Taiwan. The programme, sponsored by the Graduate Institute of Ethnomusicology at TNNUA, consisted of academic presentations, workshops and a concert. In 2017 Sunway University and TNNUA signed an MOU to encourage student exchanges between the two institutions. The grants provided by TNNUA to the three School of Arts students covered accommodation, local transportation, and registration fees. As mentioned by Zi Kang “At the summer school I learned about different music cultures and was able to play traditional instruments and interact with students. The programme gave me insights on composition and arrangement while maintaining cultural values and regional identity in music.”
