Our story and commitment
Sunway University was established in 2011 and has quickly become a leading not-for-profit private university in Malaysia committed to the pursuit of education through scholarship, research, and enterprise. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and Planetary Health are the guiding principles for our leadership, work practices, and policies, in teaching and learning, research and our collaborations with our stakeholders.

The Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development (JSC) via the SDGs aspires to bring about equitable societal and economic progress, whilst ensuring that this ambition does not irreversibly degrade planetary ecosystems that are crucial to our survival.
Sunway Centre for Planetary Health
Change begins with each one of us working together. We DO what we can, INFLUENCE who we can, and DEMAND what we can for a sustainable future. A planetary health approach enables this change.

In addition, we also offer Micro-credentials (MCs) which are “stackable” credits that can be used towards a full-blown diploma, degree or Master’s qualification. Many of our MCs cover topics taken from post-graduate degree programmes so these training courses are perfect for working adults who want to upgrade skills quickly.

Lancaster University
The well-established relationship between Sunway University and Lancaster University stretches back to 2006 and many of our degree programmes are offered in partnership with them. This means that students are also awarded a degree from Lancaster University as well as their Sunway University degree upon successfully completing their course. Lancaster University is consistently ranked in the top ten in all three major league tables in the UK – the Complete University Guide, The Guardian, and The Times and Sunday Times – and was named International University of the Year by the Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020.

Le Cordon Bleu
Le Cordon Bleu was founded in Paris and is one of the most distinguished culinary arts training organisations in the world. Our partnership with Le Cordon Bleu means that the programmes in the fields of culinary arts and hospitality management that we offer are also certified by them as meeting the highest industry standards.

Our one of a kind campus is connected to a wide range of social and community amenities by safe walkways at tree top level (the “canopy walk”) giving a unique study, work and social environment for our students and staff on campus and around Sunway City.
We are a prime example of the new global movement of sustainable "fifteen-minute cities" with hyper-connectivity and all amenities accessible within 15-minutes by walking. Close by the campus and connected via the canopy walk we have the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, the Sunway Pyramid Mall, and the Sunway Medical Centre, one of the largest and best equipped private hospitals in Southeast Asia.

Our Commitment
The foundation that fuels us
Owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway University is part of the wider Sunway Education Group with over 23,000 students enrolled in different education institutions located within Sunway City. The Foundation is the largest education-focused social enterprise in Malaysia which is very much in line with the UNSDG Goal 4.
