4th Asia Pacific Family Business Summit 2024
Sunway Business School, as the knowledge partner of the 4th Asia Pacific Family Business Summit 2024, collaborated with BinaPavo to host a master class on “Managing Emotions and Relationships in Family Business” at the Gardens Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 19 November 2024.
Led by Associate Professor Dr Shehnaz Tehseen, Dr Syed Monirul Hossain, Ms Farah Hussamuddin, and Dr Leilanie Mohd Nor, the session offered practical strategies for addressing emotional complexities in family enterprises.
Dr Shehnaz introduced the Emotional Management Model, focusing on emotional intelligence, empathy, conflict resolution, and preventing burnout. She also shared the Relationship Maintenance Model, emphasizing role clarity and boundary setting between family and business matters.
Dr Syed reinforced these insights with research findings on hierarchical respect and communication for harmonious decision-making.
Ms Farah Hussamuddin shared real-world applications from her leadership role at Grup Sinar Karangkraf, highlighting the practical use of emotional management strategies. An interactive session led by Dr Leilanie allowed participants to apply these frameworks to real-life scenarios.
Key takeaways included establishing emotional support systems, recognizing burnout signs, and ensuring role clarity to enhance both familial bonds and business sustainability.
