Back2School 2.0: Equipping Desa Mentari Children for a Brighter Tomorrow
On 15 February 2025, the Sunway Desa Mentari Community Development Programme team, together with Sunway University staff and student volunteers, carried out the Back2School 2.0 Programme. Sponsored by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), the initiative provided 1,275 children in Desa Mentari with new school shoes and uniforms to prepare them for the academic year ahead.
Beyond providing school essentials, the initiative helped ease the burden on families while giving children the confidence to start their school year on equal footing with their peers. It also encouraged participation in school and nurtured a sense of belonging among the students.
This impact was made possible through the strong support of Sunway University staff volunteers, Sunway Student Volunteers, and the Desa Mentari leadership. A heartfelt appreciation also goes out to our local ADUN, Member of Parliament, Councillor, and corporate partners for their contribution towards this meaningful cause.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the staff and student volunteers whose commitment and compassion made this programme a success. Their efforts not only provided tangible support but also instilled hope and motivation in the children of Desa Mentari.
The Back2School 2.0 Programme continues to be a testament to the power of collaboration, reflecting the shared belief that education and community empowerment pave the way for a brighter future.
Together, we are shaping a generation of resilient learners and future leaders.
