Know Your Visa: An International Student Sharing Session
On 14th May 2026, the International Student Relations Department of the Sunway University Student Council held the “Know Your Visa” international student session. In conjunction with the International Office and Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), this session was aimed at guiding our international student body on their Visa renewal procedures, what they can and cannot do while under Visa, and answer any questions and concerns that students may have.
From the feedback received during the Student Council Town Hall 1.0, Visa related issues are a big factor in the welfare of international students. As such, the International Student Relations (ISR) department organised this session so that students could have an opportunity to not only learn more about their Visas, but also gain direct feedback on issues that are case-by-case rather than general concerns. ISR worked closely with the IO and EMGS to organise this session to ease any worries students may have.
The session kicked off with an information sharing session from Ms Nurul Farhana Mohammed Asri, a senior executive from EMGS. During this time, Ms Farhana helped introduce attendees to everything they’d need to know about EMGS, how they are here to help international students, the Visa renewal procedures, part-time work while under Visa, graduate passes, and everything in between.
Following that was the highlight of the event, the Q&A session. This portion of the event’s agenda helped the eager students to receive immediate feedback on all their Visa related issues. This was conducted through two methods: firstly, the live Q&A where the audience asked questions directly to EMGS and IO representatives on the floor and secondly, the online Q&A in which attendees submitted their questions online onto a Padlet link for the moderator to read out. From general questions involving basic renewal procedure to special cases that involved more thought, the EMGS and IO representatives took time and care to answer each question they were faced with.
All-in-all, the Know Your Visa workshop helped international students gain insight on Visa-related matters, proper renewal procedures, and more in a highly interactive and informative manner. This event’s success owes to all the hard work by the people that made it possible, from the student council to EMGS and IO to the international student attendees that were eager to learn.
