Sunway University Joins Inns of Court Malaysia in Celebrating Its 10th Anniversary

Sunway University joined members of Malaysia’s legal community at the Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM) 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner & Benching Ceremony, held in Kuala Lumpur on 27 June 2026.

Sunway University was represented by Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Dr Paul Linus Andrews; Danial Rahman; and members of the Centre for Commercial Law and Justice (CCLJ) team.

The celebration marked an important milestone for ICM and its work in bringing together members of the legal profession while promoting professional excellence, mentorship and fellowship within Malaysia’s legal community.

The gala dinner was graced by His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Governor of Sarawak, and Her Most Gracious Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi. The evening also featured the benching of YAB Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, and YAA Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, Chief Justice of Malaysia.

The speeches during the evening offered thoughtful reflections on the role of the legal profession and the responsibilities that come with it. Among the key themes were integrity, humility, service and the importance of maintaining public trust in the law.

The occasion also highlighted the importance of mentorship and supporting the next generation of legal professionals which are values that strongly resonate with Sunway University’s own commitment to developing future legal professionals through education and engagement with the wider legal community.

For Sunway University, the celebration was also an opportunity to connect with members of the judiciary, legal profession and wider legal community. These connections are particularly meaningful as the University continues to develop its work in legal education, research and engagement through the Centre for Commercial Law and Justice.
