Sunway University & Macao University of Tourism Expand Regional Academic Partnership
Sunway University Hosts Macao University of Tourism to Advance Regional Collaboration
Sunway University welcomed Dr Fanny Vong, Rector of the Macao University of Tourism (UTM), to strengthen international academic exchanges and expand educational partnerships across Southeast Asia. Sunway University President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sibrandes Poppema received the visiting delegation alongside members of the senior management team.
Key Areas of Strategic Collaboration
During the bilateral meeting, executive leadership outlined several priority areas to deepen institutional engagement:
Joint Academic Pathways: Exploring initiatives that allow students to complete structured programmes to receive a degree from both Sunway University and the Macao University of Tourism.
Faculty Exchange & Research: Facilitating international mobility for academic staff and identifying collaborative research opportunities in tourism and hospitality management.
Curriculum Innovation & Talent Development: Co-designing industry-aligned modules tailored to emerging global trends and service-sector leadership across the region.
Building on Longstanding Educational Ties
The visit builds upon an established collaborative relationship between both institutions. In 2021, UTM delivered specialized online training programmes for Sunway University students, following a joint international conference co-hosted alongside Nankai University and the University of South Carolina.
During her visit, Dr Fanny Vong toured campus facilities to gain deeper insights into Sunway University's holistic learning environment. This milestone engagement reinforces Sunway University’s position as a premier ASEAN hub for global knowledge exchange, driving educational innovation and high-impact research in tourism and hospitality across the region.
