Sunway University Welcomes Lancaster University to Explore the Future of Legal Education
Sunway University was pleased to welcome senior colleagues from Lancaster University on 15 June 2026 for a day of discussions on the future of legal education, research and international academic collaboration.
The visit brought together Professor Marco Wyss, Associate Dean for Global, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Professor Bryan Clark, Head of School of Law; and Professor Angus MacCulloch, Deputy Head of School, School of Law from Lancaster University.
They were joined by colleagues from Sunway Business School and the Centre for Commercial Law and Justice (CCLJ), including Dr Paul Linus Andrews, Director at the Office of the CEO, Sunway Education Group; Kevin Tan, Deputy Dean (Education); Dr Stella Ong Kim Yoke, Deputy Dean, Employability and Alumni; Dr Priya Sharma, Associate Professor and Head of the Centre for Commercial Law and Justice; and Sapna Kaur, CCLJ Lecturer.
The discussions provided an opportunity to look beyond existing collaborations and explore what the future of legal education could look like when universities bring together different perspectives, expertise and experiences.
A key focus was on strengthening the relationship between Sunway University and Lancaster University, while building on existing initiatives within CCLJ. Discussions covered potential joint research projects, academic and staff engagement, and new opportunities to enhance teaching and learning in law.
The conversation also extended beyond law, with both sides exploring possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration across different areas of the University. This opens up exciting opportunities to connect legal education and research with wider questions in business, policy, technology and society.
For CCLJ, conversations such as these are an important part of shaping an outward-looking approach to legal education. International academic partnerships provide opportunities not only to exchange knowledge, but also to challenge assumptions, develop new ideas and create meaningful opportunities for students and academics.
The visit was also an opportunity to connect in person, exchange experiences and discuss how our institutions can work together to create new avenues for research, teaching and academic engagement.
As Sunway University continues to develop its legal education and research ecosystem, the conversations with Lancaster University mark an encouraging step towards deeper international collaboration and new possibilities in law and beyond.
