Mathematical Thinking Through Games

Overview

This course introduces the value of mathematical thinking through engaging strategy-based puzzles and games. It highlights how mathematical reasoning supports effective problem-solving and better decision-making. Puzzles and games such as Sudoku, Mahjong, Go, and card tricks will be primarily used to illustrate key ideas in logical deduction, strategic reasoning, and pattern recognition. This course will help students to develop greater strategic thinking and a more analytical mindset in approaching real-life problems.

On completing the course, students will be able to:

  1. CLO1 - Apply relevant mathematical concepts in the development of strategies for logical puzzles and games. (C3, PLO7)
  2. CLO2 - Value the role of mathematical thinking in improving decision-making skills in various scenario. (A3, PLO9)
  3. CLO3 - Solve problems by applying game-based reasoning and strategies in a collaborative setting. (P4, PLO)
