Building a Greener, Healthier Workplace Together
In our collective effort to build a greener, and healthier workplace, we are excited to launch the FMLS Sustainability Initiatives beginning 1st August 2025. These initiatives aim to reduce our environmental impact while encouraging healthier daily habits in our workplace.
Whether it’s meal prepping, walking meetings, or switching off from tech, small changes in our routines can lead to big benefits. By adopting simple best practices such as saving energy and water or reducing carbon emissions, we can each play a role in supporting global sustainability efforts.
Initiative 1: Switch Off & Unplug
Let’s all make a habit of:
Switching off lights when not in the office.
Unplugging electronic devices every Friday or the day before going on leave.
Unplugging unused devices helps eliminate phantom energy consumption, the electricity used by electronics even when they appear turned off.
This hidden usage can contribute up to 10% of your electricity bill and increases carbon emissions unnecessarily. Taking this small step helps us lower energy demand and protect the environment. This initiative supports SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by promoting energy efficiency and reducing unnecessary electricity use, which helps cut carbon emissions.
Initiative 2: Meatless Monday – Eat Local Vegetable Dishes!
Every Monday, we encourage you to skip meat for one day and explore meals centered around local vegetables. It’s a small step that makes a big difference:
Environmental impact: Reducing meat intake once a week can significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions linked to livestock production. Studies show that skipping meat once a week can significantly reduce your carbon footprint, equivalent to driving 560 km less per year (Kuala Lumpur to Taiping: Round Trip – Approximately 540 km)
Health benefits: Eating more vegetables contributes to a balanced diet, better digestion, and may help reduce the risk of lifestyle-related diseases.
Support local agriculture: Incorporate local produce and reduced carbon footprint.
The initiative aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 12, and SDG 13 by encouraging plant-based diets that are healthier and more sustainable.
Thank you for being part of this collective effort.
