Empowering Voices: Legal Identity and Digital Inclusion for Vulnerable Communities
Sunway University’s Centre for Commercial Law & Justice (CCLJ) was represented by Dr Tamara Joan Duraisingam at a panel discussion titled “Empowering Voices: Legal Identity and Digital Inclusion for Vulnerable Communities”, held at Taylor’s University on 24 June 2026.
Dr Tamara moderated a panel bringing together diverse perspectives from the stateless community, advocacy, academia and civil society. The panel featured Ms Vanessa, a representative of the stateless community; Ms Kasthuri Patto, former Parliamentarian and Deputy International Secretary, International Affairs Department, DAP; Dr Alexey Zhavoronkov, Senior Lecturer at Taylor’s University; and Ms Sofea Guiani, representative of Borneo Comrades.
The discussion examined the relationship between legal identity and digital inclusion, particularly the barriers experienced by vulnerable and underserved communities. The range of perspectives offered an opportunity to consider these issues from legal, policy, academic and lived-experience perspectives.
The discussion reflects CCLJ’s commitment to interdisciplinary engagement on contemporary legal and social issues, particularly those concerning inclusion, access to rights and the experiences of vulnerable communities.
