FCRI Brings Conversations on AI and Future Cities to KL Festival 2026
The Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI) recently joined the vibrant lineup of KL Festival 2026, taking part in the public programme “AI and the Arts” held on 30 May at Lima Pulo @ Tong Shin Terrace, Kuala Lumpur.
As one of the city’s flagship festivals, KL Festival organised by Think City and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) brought Kuala Lumpur to life with over 80 events throughout May. Guided by the theme “Memory & Tomorrow”, the festival invited people to reconnect with the city’s stories, culture, and creative energy, while reimagining what the future could look like.
At the session, Prof. Anwar P. P. Abdul Majeed, Head of Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DDSAI), shared his perspectives on artificial intelligence and its role in shaping future talent. His sharing highlighted the growing importance of AI literacy, workforce readiness, and preparing society to engage with AI responsibly rather than passively, while drawing on several interesting references from popular Hollywood movies.
This was followed by Prof. Ir. Rosdiadee Nordin, Co-Director of FCRI, who spoke on “The City That Remembers and Learns”. His sharing explored how AI can support future cities research and development through digital twins, smart infrastructure, net-zero buildings autonomous systems and data-driven urban solutions.
Throughout the programme, one thing became clear: conversations about AI are not just for experts, they are for everyone. By connecting technology with culture, memory, and creativity, the session made complex ideas feel accessible and relevant.
FCRI extends its sincere appreciation to Think City for the invitation and the opportunity to be part of this meaningful conversation on AI, creativity, and society.
