On 10 January 2026, seventeen volunteers from Sunway Student Volunteers participated in the Back2School Programme at Desa Mentari, organized by the Sunway–Desa Mentari Community Department Programme in collaboration with Sunway University educators and staff. The programme took place from 7:05 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and aimed to support underprivileged students by providing essential school supplies while fostering a sense of encouragement and companionship.

The volunteers gathered early in the morning and arrived at the venue in time for the opening ceremony, which commenced at 8:30 a.m. The event began with welcoming remarks by Tuan Zaini, Chairman of the Madani Desa Mentari Community. This was followed by an inspiring opening address delivered by the President of Sunway University, Professor Sibrandes Proppema. To conclude the morning session, Y.B Tuan Dr. Mohammad Fahmi Bin Ngah, ADUN Selangor and EXCO for Islamic Affairs and Innovation Culture, delivered an energizing speech that emphasized the importance of education and community empowerment.

The main objective of the programme was to provide educational support to students residing in Desa Mentari by distributing school supplies such as clothing, shoes, and stationery. After the opening ceremony, volunteers were assigned into groups and deployed across residential blocks to assist with the distribution process. A total of ten groups were formed, including Sunway University staff, to ensure that students in all ten blocks received the necessary supplies in an organized and efficient manner.

Throughout the activity, the programme promoted inclusivity and emotional support by creating opportunities for students to interact with caring volunteers and educators. Beyond addressing material needs, the event helped strengthen community relationships and reinforced collaboration between Sunway University and the Desa Mentari community, laying the groundwork for future educational and social initiatives.

Overall, the Back2School Programmed at Desa Mentari was a meaningful and impactful initiative that successfully promoted education, unity, and social responsibility. The experience highlighted the value of collective effort in empowering young learners and supporting underserved communities.
