On 25 November 2019, Sunway University Press celebrated the launch of the book Malaysia’s Taxation System: Contemporary Practices, Issues and Future Direction, the result of a rewarding joint publishing between the Press and the Malaysian Tax Research Foundation (MTRF), a trust body of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM) created for the advocacy of tax research in Malaysia.
The launch was officiated by YBhg Datuk Mohd Nizom Sairi, Deputy CEO (Tax Operations) of Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia, and graced by Ms Farah Rosley (President, CTIM), Mr SM Thanneermalai (Chairman, Board of Trustees, MTRF), YBhg Dato’ Sri Subromaniam Tholasy (Chairman, Customs Oversight Committee), Prof Peter Heard (Provost, Sunway University), members of the Board of Trustees of MTRF and guests from the book industry.
The book is contributed by respected minds in the tax, business, legal and accounting fields, and edited by leading economists Professor Yeah Kim Leng (Professor of Economics at Sunway University, Deputy President of the Malaysian Economic Association, Trustee of MTRF and member of Bank Negara’s Monetary Policy Committee) and Professor Mohamed Ariff (Distinguished Professor and Head of Economics & Finance at Sunway University).
The book sheds light not only on the history, legislation and application of Malaysia’s taxation system but also on the transformation of taxation practices and how the taxation system should and will look like in the future.
