Emeritus Professor Datin Dr Chia Yook Chin MBBS FRCP FAFPM (Hon)
Head of Department of Medical Sciences; Chair of Sunway University Press Editorial Board
Prof Chia Yook Chin heads the Department of Medical Sciences at Sunway University, bringing extensive experience from teaching undergraduate medical students to training postgraduate doctors in primary care at the University of Malaya. As Director of the Postgraduate Diploma in Family Medicine at the Academy of Family Physicians, she continues to train doctors in family medicine. She also introduced the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Care for the Elderly at Sunway University. Prof Chia a recipient of numerous awards, actively researches hypertension and has widely published on the subject. She remains dedicated to mentoring and inspiring young academics.
Professor Jarlath Ronayne, AM
Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah Distinguished Professor, Sunway University
Prof Jarlath Ronayne is Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah Distinguished Professor and on the Board of Directors at Sunway University. He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, and has a PhD from Cambridge. He was Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of New South Wales and Vice-Chancellor at Victoria University and Sunway University College. Since 2015, he has fostered links between Sunway, Oxford, and Cambridge, including the Jeffrey Cheah Professorial Fellowships and Scholar-in-Residence programme. He collaborates with the Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine and Royal Papworth Hospital, and publishes on chemistry, science policy, and academic history. He is a former visiting fellow at Oriel College, Oxford, St John’s College, Cambridge, and an honorary fellow at Trinity College.
Professor Dr Angela Lee Siew Hoong
Associate Dean (Employability and Engagement) - School of Engineering and Technology
Dr Angela Lee is a Professor at Sunway University, specializing in data science and AI. She developed the Data Science degree at Sunway University and has been creating data science curricula for over 10 years. She received the National Most Outstanding Educator Award in Malaysia in 2023 and the Distinguished Educator Award in 2021. An active speaker at data science conferences, she also serves on technical programme committees of leading AI conferences. She teaches Social Media Analytics, Visual Analytics, Advanced Analytics, and Business Intelligence, and has published in international journals on AI, Predictive Analytics, Healthcare Analytics, and Knowledge Management.
Professor Wong Koi Nyen
Professor, Sunway Business School
Dr Wong Koi Nyen, a Professor of Economics at Sunway Business School, Sunway University, is distinguished for his expertise in Foreign Direct Investment and International Trade. With over 30 years of academic and research experience, he has an extensive publication record and has been recognised with several awards for his teaching and research contributions. His vast experience with journal publications and his commitment to advancing business and economics knowledge is beneficial to the Sunway University Press Editorial Board.
Professor Angela Amphawan
Head of Smart Photonics Research Laboratory, Sunway University
Professor Ts Dr Angela Amphawan earned her PhD in optical communications from Oxford, UK. She then received the Fulbright Award to work on optical devices and networks at MIT. Currently, she leads the Photonics Lab at Sunway University. Previously, she served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering and Director of the Optical Technology Research Laboratory at the University Utara Malaysia. She has also lectured at Multimedia University and worked as a Computing Officer at Oxford. She is on the National 5G Task Force and the Editorial Board of APL Photonics Journal, among others.
Associate Professor Dr Sim Tze Ying
Dean - School of American Education, Sunway University
Dr Sim Tze Ying is the Dean of the School of American Education at Sunway University. She holds a Doctor of Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Kassel, Germany, and a Master of Science in Software Engineering from University Putra Malaysia. Dr Sim has seven years of experience as a researcher and teaching assistant, and five years as a System Engineer at Motorola Semiconductor Malaysia. Her research focuses on variability modeling and engineering education. She is passionate about teaching and explores technologies to enhance engagement and is dedicated to making education accessible to all.
Associate Professor Dr Tamas Kiss
Associate Professor - Centre for English Language Studies, Sunway University
Dr Tamas Kiss is an Associate Professor at the Centre for English Language Studies . He has been involved with language teacher education programme in Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. He has delivered one-off talks and directed longer, intensive teacher development courses in over 20 countries by invitation of universities, language teacher organisations, cultural institutions, and international publishing houses. His research interests include language pedagogy, language teacher education, creativity, intercultural communication, the link between complex dynamic systems and education, and the role of culture in language teaching materials.
Associate Professor Dr Ooi Pei Boon
Associate Professor - School of Medical and Life Sciences, Sunway University
Dr Ooi Pei Boon obtained her PhD in Guidance and Counselling from University Putra Malaysia. She is a registered and practicing counselor with the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia. Under the Counsellor Act 1998 (Act 580), Dr Ooi serves as the core member of the Malaysia Board of Counsellors. Dr Ooi has been the editor of books and proceedings published under Sunway University Press and has been recently appointed PLOS ONE Academic Editor since August 2023.
Dr Jason Cheok Boon Chuan
Director of Programme - Victoria University Undergraduate Programme, Sunway College
Dr Jason Cheok is the Director of the Victoria University Undergraduate Programme at Sunway College. He earned his PhD from Victoria University, specialising in cross-cultural service interactions in luxury hotels, and has published in high-impact journals like Current Issues in Tourism and the Journal of Vacation Marketing. Jason also holds an MBA from the United States and an undergraduate degree from Canada. Beyond overseeing the Victoria University programme, he serves as editor for several journals and promotes a research-oriented environment, actively encouraging and supporting colleagues to pursue research initiatives and PhD aspirations.
Carol Wong
Head, Sunway University Press
Carol Wong leads Sunway University Press with a 17-year track record in pivotal publishing roles at Pearson and Marshall Cavendish. Her expertise spans P&L management, product creation, and marketing in Singapore and Malaysia. Formerly the Director of Cambridge A-Levels at Sunway College, she is driven by a commitment to impact lives through academic publishing. Holding an Honours degree in Biology from UPM, Malaysia, and a Master's degree from the National Institute of Education, NTU Singapore, she brings a wealth of academic insight to her role. Actively contributing to the Malaysian publishing scene, she serves as an EXCO member for MABOPA.
