Sunway University was honoured to welcome more than 90 international publishing leaders from the International Publishers Congress during a special visit to the University.
The delegation was hosted by Sunway University President Prof. Sibrand Poppema, alongside Prof. Mahendhiran Sanggaran Nair, highlighting Sunway University’s role as a proud Partner of the International Publishers Congress and as an Executive Committee member of the Malaysian Book Publishers Association (MABOPA), the local organising committee.
The visit brought together leading figures from the global publishing community, providing an opportunity for delegates to experience Sunway University and learn more about its commitment to education, research, sustainability and global collaboration.
Among the distinguished guests were Gvantsa Jobava, President of the International Publishers Association; Melissa Fleming, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications; Rachel Martin, Global Director of Sustainability at Elsevier; and Sheikh Faisal Sheikh Mansor, President of MABOPA.
The delegation also visited The Library by BookXcess at Sunway Square, offering an opportunity to showcase Malaysia’s vibrant literary and publishing landscape. Sunway University extends its appreciation to Andrew Yap and the BookXcess team for their partnership and support in making the visit a memorable experience.
As a fifth-generation university, Sunway University is committed to creating positive impact through education, research, sustainability and global engagement. Welcoming leaders from the international publishing community provided a valuable platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange and collaboration across borders.
The visit formed part of the activities surrounding the 35th International Publishers Congress, held in Malaysia for the first time in its 130-year history.
