Hello, I am Zhang Hongfen from Mainland China. I am currently in my second year of PhD research on the Impact of Modern Chinese Cinema, which is a continuation of the topic from both my Undergraduate, and master’s degrees. 

As a foreign student on her first lived experience outside Mainland China, I find Kuala Lumpur to be much nicer than I imagined. It is safe, it has good health services, and there are many historic places to visit, for example, Malacca. The weather, however, has been challenging as it is around 45 degrees warmer than what I experience during the Chinese winter.

Beyond academics, and when I am not watching movies, I relax with Chinese calligraphy, which is the writing of Chinese characters as an art form.

After my studies at Sunway University, Malaysia campus, I will return to China where I am employed in the Art Department at a Chinese university. So, the knowledge gained during my studies at Sunway will be put to good use by imparting the many skills I have learned, and am still learning.
