Nurturing Future Hospitality Leaders: Bridging Students to Industry Partners
The School of Hospitality and Service Management recently hosted the External Advisory Committee (EAC) meeting, where industry partners convene together with educators to discuss on industry trends and how curriculum can continually improve to meet the competitive industry standards.
Nonetheless, it is also pertinent to have a student voice in this committee meeting. Hence, the School was also represented by Michael Ariel Satyadi, Labeeb Sayed Afzal, Rachel Chen Hsiao Jing, Wong E Lih, Kelly Ong Shi Xin, Chung Jia Nong who are from the BSc (Hons) Culinary Management and BSc (Hons) International Hospitality Management programmes. The students shared about their internship experiences, and how their respective mentors have been instrumental in nurturing their skills, putting theoretical knowledge to practice.
The EAC is a platform to bridge the gap between academia and industry, where students could engage directly with industry partners. Such engagement could foster an environment where knowledge and real-world skills are combined, hence, empowering our students to thrive in their chosen fields. Ms Rita Lo, Associate Dean for Employability and Engagement also mentioned, “Engaging students with by industry guest-speaking series, industrial visits, industry projects, and internship placements will provide them with sufficient skills, knowledge, experience, and competencies to be ready to serve and support the hospitality industries.”.
