Sunway University Signs Collaborative Research Agreement with B-Crobes Laboratory Sdn Bhd.

We are pleased to announce that Sunway University and B-Crobes Laboratory Sdn Bhd, a leading Malaysian biotechnology company specialising in the development of probiotics and microbiome-based health solutions, have officially entered into a Collaborative Research Agreement.

This partnership will enable a joint study on the effects of probiotics in regulating the gut-brain axis, a critical biological pathway increasingly recognised for its role in the development and progression of various human diseases, including neurological, inflammatory, and metabolic disorders.

The project will be led by Dr. Amar Abdullah, from the Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences (FMLS) at Sunway University as the Principal Investigator. The agreement, spanning three years (2025–2028), aims to foster collaborative research aligned with the shared goals of both institutions. Under this partnership, B-Crobes Laboratory will contribute an industrial research grant of RM50,000, along with probiotic/placebo supplementation to support the study.

The agreement was formalised by Prof. Sibrand Poppema, President of Sunway University, and Prof. Raja Affendi Raja Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences (FMLS), Sunway University, together with Prof. Lee Heng Yee, Executive Director and Founder of B-Crobes Laboratory Sdn Bhd, and Dr. Kaley Oon, Ph.D Oon, Medical Affairs Director of B-Crobes. In their remarks, the leaders from both institutions emphasised the importance of this collaboration and its potential to shape the future of medical research in Malaysia.
