Sunway University Press was proud to participate as a Partner and member of the local Organising Committee for the 35th International Publishers Congress, held in Malaysia for the first time in the Congress’s 130-year history.

Held at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur under the theme “Publishing Intelligence, Sustaining Forward,” the landmark Congress brought together more than 500 delegates from 43 countries to discuss the opportunities, challenges and future direction of the global publishing industry.

Throughout the five-day Congress, publishers, industry leaders and experts explored key issues shaping the future of publishing, including artificial intelligence, information integrity, publishing ethics, sustainability, global access and cross-border rights.

Among the key discussions were the impact of AI on publishing, the importance of protecting truth and transparency in an increasingly complex information environment, and the role of publishers in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Congress also highlighted opportunities for greater international collaboration, including expanding access to knowledge across linguistic and geographical boundaries, strengthening regional publishing networks and developing new opportunities for co-editions and cross-border rights.
The Congress concluded with the reading of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration, establishing a shared commitment to ethical and forward-looking publishing practices. The programme also featured a keynote by Markus Dohle, who shared insights into how digital transformation is creating new opportunities for the global publishing industry.

As the historic Congress concluded in Kuala Lumpur, the hosting baton was passed to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, which will host the next International Publishers Congress.

Sunway University Press extends its appreciation to the International Publishers Association, President Gvantsa Jobava, Secretary General José Borghino and the entire Organising Committee for their leadership, vision and dedication in bringing this significant international publishing gathering to Malaysia.

The 35th International Publishers Congress marked an important milestone for Malaysia and the wider publishing community, while opening new possibilities for collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange across borders.
