Survey of World Religions is an introduction to the prominent religions of the world: Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Minor religions such as Jainism, Sikhism, Shinto, Zoroastrianism, etc are also  discussed. Each tradition is explored within the terms of its historical development (key figures, events, continuity and change, etc.) and fundamental worldview (divine reality, human nature, the problem and solution for human beings, ethical teachings, life beyond death, mysticism, etc.). Through the course, students develop an understanding, gain an appreciation and knowledge of each religion as well as religiosity and  spirituality in general. Contemporary issues, such as religion in modern life, secularism and religious pluralism, will also be explored.

On completing the course, students will be able to:

1. CLO1: Illustrate the distinct history, beliefs and practices of the world’s religions. 
2. CLO2: Implement the concept of “religion” in a variety of worldviews.
3. CLO3: Explain one’s own views of religion, belief in the divine, or religious groups.
