Ethical Sourcing Policy
SDG 12.2.1
Sunway University has embedded ethical sourcing into multiple policy frameworks. At the highest level, the Sustainability Policy (2021, reviewed 2025) affirms that:
Clause 5.5.3 - Procurement practices will prioritise environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and ethically sourced products.
This establishes a clear institutional commitment that applies across all procurement activities, including the sourcing of food and supplies.
Sustainability Policy (2021, reviewed 2025)
Building on this, the University has adopted a dedicated Sustainable Procurement Policy (2021, reviewed 2023), which applies to all employees, associates, suppliers, and any other individuals or organisations who have dealings with the University. This scope explicitly includes food suppliers and vendors, ensuring that the principles of ethical sourcing apply equally to food and other supplies.
- Under the Social guiding principle, the policy requires suppliers to prohibit slavery and the use of forced or child labour across their supply chains, and to provide a non-discriminatory, healthy, and safe environment for employees.
- Under the Environmental guiding principle, the policy favours suppliers of goods and services that minimise environmental footprint across their life cycle and demonstrate sustainability through eco-labels. These provisions directly extend to the ethical sourcing of food and related supplies.
Sustainable Procurement Policy (2021, reviewed 2023)
This commitment is supported by both the University’s Sustainability Policy (2021, reviewed 2025) and its Sustainable Procurement Policy (2021, reviewed 2023), which address the ethical sourcing of food and supplies.
