SDG 12.2.4

Sunway University has a formal waste disposal policy that explicitly addresses the measurement of waste sent to landfill and recycled. The Landfill Policy (2018, reviewed 2022) commits the University to divert 40% of campus-generated waste from landfills by 2030. It establishes waste management and disposal practices, including waste separation methods, to facilitate recycling and to measure how much waste is generated and sent to landfill. The policy covers organic, inorganic (recyclable), and scheduled waste streams.

The Sustainability Policy (2021, reviewed 2025) further strengthen this framework. 

• Section 5.4 (Circular Economy and Waste Management) outlines recycling and reuse initiatives and reiterates the 40% landfill diversion target.
• Section 6 (Data, Monitoring and Reporting) establishes a centralised Sustainability Data Dashboard to monitor, measure, evaluate, and report waste disposal outcomes, including landfill and recycling.
