Sunway University’s investment practices are guided by a firm commitment to environmental responsibility and long-term sustainability, forming the foundation of its responsible investment approach.

In line with Clause 3.1 of the Sustainable Investment Policy (2023, reviewed 2024);

Environmental Responsibility - Prioritise investments in companies and projects that demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability, including renewable energy, resource efficiency, and climate resilience. 

the University prioritises investments in companies and projects that demonstrate strong environmental performance, including those advancing renewable energy, resource efficiency, and climate resilience. This approach reflects the University’s ESG integration principles and supports a transition toward low-carbon and environmentally sustainable sectors.

Consistent with the University’s aim to embed sustainability and planetary health principles across all academic, research, administrative, and operational activities, as outlined in the Sustainability Policy (2021, reviewed 2025), the University is actively strengthening its investment practices to align with global sustainability goals, including SDG 7 and SDG 13. The University recognises the importance of reducing investment exposure to carbon-intensive energy industries such as coal and oil, as encouraged by international sustainability frameworks. This direction is currently under review for incorporation into future enhancements of the investment policy, with planned updates intended to further align the University’s investment approach with divestment-related principles.
