The Asia Pacific Centre for Hospitality Research at the School of Hospitality and Service Management is hosting its 3rd research seminar this coming 14 May 2024.
We are delighted to have Professor John Ap from Macao University of Tourism to share about Myths and Misconceptions of Qualitative Research.
Join us at this in-person seminar to learn more about developing a qualitative mindset and overcoming challenges related to establishing methodological rigor in qualitative research.
Scholarly research has been dominated by the quantitative approach as the qualitative approach is often deemed to be less "scientific" and lacking in rigour. In order to have and develop a qualitative mindset, it is important to have knowledge and awareness of the myths and misconceptions of qualitative research. A common mistake and problem when evaluating qualitative research is that quantitative criteria are used to assess qualitative research. Trustworhtiness and various measures used to establish the "validity" and rigour of the qualitative approach will be discussed. Challenges in conducting qualitative research will be addressed and advice on how to deal with them will be provided.
