Presentation Synopsis

Different types of crises (economic, political, health, etc.) on a global scale have led to a change in the perceptionof tourism and leisure mobility in post-modern society. The hypermobile world blurs the boundaries betweentourism and everyday life, leading to novel forms of mobility such as proximity tourism, staycation, and locavism. The essence of these forms of mobility is dualism between tourist and resident, allowing locals to explore newplaces and areas as tourists and enjoy a greater variety of transformative local experiences within the home region. In this way, Tuan’s theory of place experience and Urry's notion of the tourist gaze and post-tourists were revisitedto deconstruct tourist mobilities through physical distance by re-examining tourist mobilities as part of everydayenvironments and practises. Several examples will be discussed to acknowledge the complexity of the presentedphenomena.
