Research Project
Microplastic-Induced Oxidative Stress on Intestinal Barrier Function in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Project Description
In recent years, there has been an apparent rise in the incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) across Asia, especially within urban areas and among younger age groups. Environmental elements like
dietary changes and pollution exposure have been put forth as potential explanations for this trend. Microplastic contamination that exists in the environment, food and drinking water is particularly intriguing since it may have a big impact on how the disease develops. The precise mechanisms by which microplastic influences the severity and progression of IBD remain unknown. The study aims is to investigate the potential relationship between
microplastic exposure and the IBD patient severity, as well as the underlying mechanisms by which microplastics
may affect IBD.
