Intensive English Programme Students Engage in Community Outreach Programme

On 2nd December 2024, a group of 18 enthusiastic students from Japan – representing Teikyo University, Kyoto Tachibana University, Kindai University, and Kansai Gaidai University – who take IEP courses went on a visit to the Blessed Sunway Mentari Learning Centre, a UNHCR-supported learning hub for refugees.

This visit aimed to enrich the student's study abroad experience by not only enhancing their English language skills but also providing them with the opportunity to engage with refugees and participate in community outreach. The main activities, facilitated by two dedicated teachers from the Intensive English Programme, Ms Tan Lay Hong and Mr Eizal Afiq, included collecting funds to purchase study tables for the centre and conducting interactive sessions with the children, teaching them about Japanese culture. The students also performed a dance for the kids, creating a joyful and memorable atmosphere.

As part of Sunway University’s mission to uphold the values of giving back to the community, this initiative provided the students with valuable insights and meaningful connections, contributing significantly to their personal and academic growth. The students had a memorable experience, leaving a positive impact on the community.
