SBS Visits Hiin-Cosmic HQ in Indonesia
8 students from Sunway Business School, accompanied by Dr Stella Ong Kim Yoke, travelled from the Singapore Cruise Centre to Harbour Bay, Batam. The trip's main purpose was to visit the Hiin-Cosmic production plant at Batam Terminal, Indonesia.
Hiin Holdings, based in Singapore, has significantly evolved since its start as a bicycle retail shop in 1970. It transitioned into a leading distributor of lubricants in Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia, becoming the largest distributor for brands like Castrol and Esso.
Hiin Holdings has been recognised with multiple awards, including the prestigious Singapore Enterprise 50 (E50) awards.
PT Cosmic Indonesia (Petroleum Nusantara), a subsidiary of Hiin, plays a crucial role in the Indonesian petroleum industry. Specialising in the import and distribution of petroleum products under the "COSMIC" brand, Cosmic's headquarters are in Batam, Riau Islands. The company operates an extensive network of shipping and terminal assets, distributing high-speed diesel, heavy fuel oil, asphalt, and lubricants throughout Indonesia.
SBS is grateful to CK Lim (Business Owner, Hiin Holdings) and Ms Ivana Juniata (Sales & Operations) for facilitating the visit and to Mr Chan Kwok Fook (CEO, Cosmic Batam) for hosting the briefing and lab demonstration. Mr. Chan also provided the group with a tour of the terminal. The University hopes that all students at Sunway will be able to experience such beneficial visits as this during their course of study.
